Best in show – Parry Sound Cruise In night
We went to the Parry Sound Cruzers’ Cruise Night at the town docks tonight. They have a car cruise weekly there. Last night’s wasn’t there biggest showing ever, but it was still neat to see what was there. My two favorites were the 1963 Cadillac and this Pontiac. The Pontiac has a gorgeous plaid interior and it’s for sale! Can anyone spare $44k?
Gull Rock tour
I kayaked out to Gull Rock the other day. It was an unscheduled visit. I was planning on just going around the bay a bit, but the Island Queen and I seemed to be playing chicken with each other, so being that she is way bigger than my kayak, I changed my course and headed out to Gull Rock. Gull Rock is just a giant rock. It’s a bit too small to be an inhabited island, so it’s just for the birds.
See? It really is just a giant rock.

You can see some of the birds sitting on it. I wonder how many live here.
Sorry about the video stopping abruptly. My camera’s memory card ran out of room.
Take two – scenic video
I’ve been wanting to shoot a video going through Hole in the Wall by kayak for a long while now. Almost a week of crummy weather slowed that idea down, but a few days ago, I went for a long 7+ kayak trip and I made this video. The internet has been not completely reliable as of late, but I finally got it uploaded yesterday. So here is Hole in the Wall by kayak. Enjoy!
10 things to do in Parry Sound
I came across a list this morning of ten things to do in the Parry Sound area. I can think of more than ten things to do, but this list is definitely a good start for those that haven’t been to the area before. Even though I’ve been here all my life, I’ve still only done five of the things on their list. Here it is if you want to check it out: Ten Outdoor Parry Sound activities
If I were writing the list, I think I would have to add…
Climbing to the top of Pirate’s Cove to see the view:

Going through Hole in the Wall by boat:
Or better yet, jumping off of Hole in the Wall’s cliffs into the water:

I’d also have to add going out in a canoe in the middle of the night looking for the Northern Lights.
The snowy town dock
After the fire tower, we went down to the shore for a closer look at the ice. I figured we’d be fine walking out to the island, but our roommate wasn’t so sure of the ice’s thickness. After seeing so many snowmobiles pass us while we were hanging out on the town dock, he started to feel a bit more confident about our trek out on the ice.
Parry Sound fire tower – February 2010
After a few hours of broken sleep at the hotel due to some miscommunication about our hotel rooms when we checked in at 3am, our first stop was the Parry Sound fire tower on Tower Hill. We figured out would be a good way to check the weather and how strong the ice looked. Here’s a few pics and a video of it. Sorry for sounding half asleep on the video. That’s just the lack of sleep talking.

Countdown to February continued…
To keep up with the February countdown, here’s another pic taken from my December 2002 trip up north. Here I am sitting on the pier in town. You can see the Island Queen hibernating further down the dock. Looking at the footprints, I think that there were only a few people that made the trip out to the end of the pier that day.
