One final gift

By Sadie, January 1, 2010 9:55 pm

I got one other piece of island “art” from my dad as a gift. I’m usually not a fan of cutesy signs, but this one has a certain charm to it. It will be going up on the porch opening weekend in May.

The husband got me a pendant that’s in the shape of Ontario. It has a star over Parry Sound. It’s sort of cryptic down here in Ohio, but I know what it is. :)

Island art – the outhouse clock

Each year at our annual holiday party, we have an awful gift exchange. This is much different than a standard white elephant – our guests bring the most terrible or offensive gifts possible. This year, my brother brought this ugly and broken toilet seat clock to the exchange. Our friend, Roger (of Pee Pot Pasta fame), got the clock in the exchange. He “accidentally” left it when he left the party. Usually I get annoyed when people leave their awful gifts at my house, but this time I wasn’t annoyed at all. I think it will go perfectly in the outhouse – especially considering the outhouse’s new blue underwater theme. I also think that it’s perfect because it’s broken. It’s like it’s permanently on island time.

I got a new piece of island art as a gift from my mother-in-law. It’s not hanging up yet, but it will be soon. It’s a Tom Thomson print of his Northern River painting. Tom Thomson was a member of the Group of Seven. You can read about them here.

Happy holidays!

Colleen is down south visiting Victoria for the holidays, so I shot this video for her the other night so she could see could see the house all decorated. I have the tendency to decorate a lot for the holidays. It gives me something fun to do when it’s cold outside. I figured you guys might be interested in checking out our home away from the cottage too. Feel free to count and cringe any time I say “how cool/neat/etc is that?” I know that I do. lol

I’ll be posting pics over the next few days of some of the island related gifts that we have gotten. There have been some neat ones.

I hope that you all are having a wonderful holiday season!
