About Action Island
Action Island is a private island on Georgian Bay in the heart of Ontario’s Cottage Country. It is a few acres of peaceful wilderness on a big rock. If you think that living on a private island must be glamorous, think again. Its cottage is well over one hundred years old, with a similar vintage ice house that we use as a shed, and a matching two-seater outhouse (no, we don’t undertand why it has two seats either). With no electricity, phone, tv, or running water, life on the island really is like glorified camping. We use a hand pump to get water from the lake, filter our own drinking water, bathe in the bay, use kerosene lamps, and do our best not to bother the bears and the rattlesnakes. The closest thing that we have to a “modern” convenience is that we have a propane powered stove/oven, propane fridge, and three propane lights. We treat ourselves to a new flashlight every year too. Though the lack of amenities may scare off most people, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
